This is a vintage stitch design, and is made so that the pattern around the fabric is more visible with a sweet bean stitch to go around the letter. This is designed to have a slightly unfinished look, and will no way affect the quality. You may see some loose threads after the first washing or two. They can be trimmed with a scissors.
All embroidered items have a soft mesh backing to cover stitching on the underside of the garment, to protect thread from rubbing or causing discomfort.
